cosmopolitan fails

This is an old cover of cosmopolitan magazine. I think its December 2000.

Some of the headlines here are:
A) Total Body Sex
B)Cosmo's Naked Quiz
C) Your orgasm face: What He's thinking when He sees it.
D) How to outsmart a date rapist.

A) just sounds like a lot of clean up.

B)I can only imagine what this was about.

C) He should be thinking " SCORE! I did it!" If he isn't- he's a loser that should be drop kicked.

D) Really? Really? Really?

So I fail.

I'm sorry that I failed at NaBloPoMo. I've gotten super busy with stuff. I have lots of excuses as to why I've been absent though. I shall list my excuses

A) Work
B) VUCM
C) The Boy
D) School
E) Higher Bound(see rest of post for explanation)
F) Facebook Games

I've been helping out with Higher Bound for a few weeks now. Higher Bound is Christian ministry for middle school students. I have other pet names for the students, but I'll save those for another post. They're fun, a little insane, a little to much energy, but they're fun little hellions. I spose little is a bad term- most of them are taller than me.

More Middle School funnies.

So I have this newfound relationship, we shall call him " The Boy". I went with The Boy to Higher Bound( Christian Ministry to Middle Schoolers.)

At Dinner, Last Tuesday I was there and chilling out and eating dinner when I got a text that said that my roommate was moving out. Fast forward two hours.

Some kids, The Boy and i were sanding blocks for preschool kids as a service project- Whilest I complain that I have to go roommate hunting. The middle schoolers then told me I should take The Boy as a roommate.

I think I just died laughing. It was Hilarious.

Sex and Middle Schoolers

So I spent my evening with Higher Bound( Christian ministry to middle and high school students).
About half-way through the evening, several of us were sitting around talking about just stuff and a high school junior starts talking about how some things are overrated- drugs, booze, whatever. Then this kid says "Sex is overrated." And it made me pause (which of course all the middle schooler kids noticed- and was like, "so is it overrated?" To which I responded with " You middle school and probably the high schoolers' should not have sex. It just isn't smart.")

Now it didn't make me pause because I think middle schoolers' should have sex or anything like that. It made me pause because I think sex is such a large topic, one that can't be generalized as "overrated" with the wave of hand. I think that, even when talking to middle schoolers about sex, you have to define it for the purposes of the conversation- where does sex begin? sexual touching or PIV( penis in vagina sex) or oral sex, or even include masturbation? I think it might not be all black and white. I think it probably has some grey areas. I don't know how easily it can be pinned down.

Soooo about this blogging daily thing.......

I have no inspiration at this exact second for a useful and informative blog...so instead you get a random post secret from my archive.

"you're Alex right?"

So for those of you that don't know, my real name is Alexandria. I've been working at the PE complex on campus for about two months(ish) now. I have like 7 or 8 supervisors- and none of them know me as Allie. It's either Alex, or Alexandria. And for the first time, it doesn't drive me nuts. It'd take way too much work to get it straight with all of my supervisors.

Anywho- about my job. I clean gym equipment, sit ID desks, check out equipment, make boys put on shirts while working out, watch the basketball courts, watch boys work out, clean stuff. yeah.

I have a couple rants about stupid people at work. but I don't feel like typing them out right now....So you get to wait.

PostSecret Book

I have the new PostSecret book. (It's amazing, all of you should get it.)

Secret: Whenever I read the Sunday Secrets- I get a little terrified that the secrets I've sent in will be posted. (I've sent in 2 or 3.)

So I preordered this book back in April. I get it and start ripping open the packaging, the familular feeling of fear takes over, knowing that this time- my secrets could be out. They aren't. They are still safely in the Franks' vault of secrets. No one knows them but the postal people, Frank, and I. There is a sense of relief in knowing that that they're still secrets- but also that they aren't mine anymore- they belong to to more people than just me. I know I'd feel a similar sense of relief if they had been published- but for now I don't know exactly what that'd feel like.

The Sex Blog

Sex. It's pervasive. It is absorbed at every level of our society- for better or for worse.

Sex is big- no matter how you see it. It's got all these consequences, both physical and emotional. Pregnancy, STDs', other infections are only half of it. It generally comes with the emotional side as well, attachment to the other person involved, attachment to the label or status of "virgin."

Sex education is huge. I remember what sex ed was like when I was in middle/high school. In middle school it was like, "Sex is bad, don't have it." In high school sex ed was part of health class, and while it wasn't sex-positive(which I think is ideal), it was comprehensive. But health class wasn't mandatory in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grades. I took it as a senior. It just had to be taken before you graduate. Kids learning about contraception, and birth control, and STDs' for the first time in their senior year is far too late in my opinion. The older a teen gets, the more likely they are to have sex(see stats)- and if they don't receive correct, honest information about sex early, then they might have uneducated sex.

So- my take on PIV(penis in vagina) sex. It's special and it has consequences and it shouldn't be had until one has a handle on their own sexual health. It shouldn't be had until one understands what they are getting to, and the consequences. What their individual odds of pregnancy and disease are. It shouldn't be had unless both parties know what their STD status is(like know for sure, as in a recent trip to the local clinic.) I think the couple should have a plan in case things go awry and you get an STD, or pregnant. And going a little further than most people would probably go, it shouldn't happen unless accommodations can be made for a child. Accommodations, for me, don't mean sticking the child at parents/grandparents house, or being dependent on welfare, or dropping out of school.

I don't think teens should engage in sexual activities. Teens as a general rule don't have the above things. They aren't as likely to take birth control correctly, and they aren't as likely to have a plan in case of pregnancy, and they aren't as likely to have a handle on their own sexual health. And they are almost definitely going to be unable to accommodate for a child.

Speaking from a Christian point of view. I think we make too big a deal out of sex. I mean, before marriage(though we could debate the applicable definition of marriage), sex is a sin. But lots of other things are sins too, like lying, swearing, cheating, and stealing too- and they're all treated equally in the eyes of god. So why make a huge deal about sexual sins.-when there are a bunch of other sins that are just as equal- and even just as pervasive as sex.

Indiana by Danny Catchpole.

We've reached the end my friend, the bitter end my friend now
But a letter I will send, yes a message I will send somehow
I think we broke the trend, if there ever was a trend and I’m proud
We made the perfect blend, but you were the perfect blend out loud

(and) over, it's far from over, when I return we'll light up the whole sky
(and) remember, please remember, I can see you there even when I’m blind
(and) this feeling, oh God this feeling, will always be with me in my mind
(and) I’m leavin', no I’m not leavin', cause I’ll always be right there by your side

As we look onto the lake, and we see the sunlight break down
We never knew the friends we'd make, never knew they'd be so great and proud
As we look upon the light, our dreams become so bright and loud
We think we're losing sight, but meet again we might somehow

(and) over, it's far from over, when I return we'll light up the whole sky
(and) remember, please remember, I can see you there even when I’m blind
(and) this feeling, oh Lord this feeling, will always be with me in my mind
(and) I’m leavin', no I’m not leavin', cause I’ll always be right there by your side

We've reached the end my friend
, the bitter end my friend now
But a letter I will send, can't compare to the tears you'll spend somehow
Now seasons will come and go but memories will stay I know and I’m proud
I’m still oceans apart, but in Indiana I’ve found my heart beat loud

(and) over, it's far from over, when I return we'll light up the whole sky
(and) remember, please remember, I can see you there even when I’m blind
(and) this feeling, oh Lord this feeling, will always be with me in my mind
(and) I’m leavin', no I’m not leavin', cause I’ll always be right there by your side

We might be oceans apart, but in Indiana I’ve found my heart...

I left my heart and soul with you. I trust you've taken good care of it. I hope you'll give me the chance to come back.

How to not ask a girl out 101

What is it about boys and there ability to cause boy drama.

So last week this guy I met asked for my phone number. I was flattered- and gave him my number. He called and the conversation went something like this.

Me: Hello
Him: Can you talk?
Me: Sure.
Him: I'd like to ask you out, but what if you transferred out next semester.
Me: uh...
Him: I really like you and you have really pretty eyes and really pretty brown hair and you laugh a lot.
Me: Thanks.
Him: So uh, when do you wanna start it?
Me: uhh gimme a call this weekend.

So I'm missing a few phrases I'm sure- but that is the important stuff. He did call 6 times the next day. The next day was not this weekend, unless Thursday constitutes a weekend now.

So here is what you shouldn't do:
A) Call six times the next day. One call is just as efficient. And for the love of God use voice mail.
B) Don't us the phrase" So when do you want to start it"
C) Don't worry about if they are gonna transfer out next semester-unless of course next semester is a week away.

Here is what to do:
A) Actually ask her out. Confidence is sexy. " Hey dinner friday night 6pm- Wanna go?" works far better "I'd like to ask you out."
B) Ask for a date, not a relationship.

Though- about this I did tell my best friend about this and the conversation went like
Me: I have boy drama. This-
Brandon: and I have a shotgun- but continue.

Ahhh I've been like straight abandoning my blog recently.

Sorry guys. I know that my blog has been like straight Postsecret Updates. I moved into my dorm room on august 20th. I am living in Clark Hall on campus this year. It is a 2 bedroom, one living room/kitchenette, 2 bathroom, 4 student set up. I'll post pictures as soon as I make my bed(might be a while.) If you want my address shoot me an email or something.

My computer came back from its vacation just fine.

I'm taking 15 credit hours this semester.

I'm taking applied pyschology, aka bullshit. It's super easy and super boring. My textbook for this class is actually an instructors edition. But it doesn't give me any answers or anything.

Then there is Cultural Diversity. It sounds like its a super lame class- but it really isn't. It's super interesting.

General Pyschology, uhm it's at 8 am. Enough said. Developemental pyschology, its interesting- better than applied pyschology. Introduction to

Introduction to Exceptionalities, this class actually deals with children who have execeptionalities that effect the classroom setting, from physical disabilities and handicaps to learning disabilities and mental retardation. It's really interesting. I'm digging it.

So a mini rant about my Applied Pyschology textbook. There is a section on sexuality. It spends 3 paragraphs talking about abstinence as an option. The pill, plan B, abortion, natural family planning method, isn't talked about at all. I know that this isn't health class- and that we are college students. But it shouldn't be assumed that all college students know that there is more than just abstinence out there-in fact I think that assumption is quite dangerous. I think if the book pays lip service to abstinence, then it should pay lip service to the other methods of preventing pregnancy too.

Hello. I must regrettably inform you that my computer has a cracked LCD screen. She is going on vacation to get fixed today. She'll be back soon.

So yeah....I'll be back in about a week.

The other day I was at borders- and looked through the PostSecret Books. I founded a secret in them!

For those of you that don't know Postsecret is a community art project where people send their secrets on postcards and other materials to a guy named Frank Warren. And in the PostSecret books people tend to leave their secrets in them.

So whenever I'm at a bookstore that stocks the books I check them out-even though I already own them.
